Murphy Lakes is a single-family owned and operated local business.
Murphy Lakes is a nearly 400 acre property riddled with local history. The majority of the eight lakes formed as part of a strip-mining operation established in 1875. After the soft Missouri coal was no longer profitable, the property became a small farm and dairy operation. The property was largely owned and developed by the Murphy family until Rob Alongi purchased the property from Mark Murphy's widow in 1996.
At that time the property was used for minor farming and as a hunting and fishing resort. There was no running water, and a few habitable structures on the property including a large dairy barn and the log cabin still standing. Since that time the property has continued use as a hunting and fishing getaway, but has transitioned to family oriented events and weddings.
